Outsource CAD's founder set up a CAD production office in Chennai in February 2013. It started with four people. It is now a team of thirty-five, and we still work with them today — the same operation, built up over thirteen years.

You get named CAD technicians who work exclusively on your projects, trained on your drawing standards, your templates, your layer structures, and your client conventions. They become familiar with your work in the way an in-house team would.

We handle recruitment, training, day-to-day management, and quality control. You brief the work and receive checked drawings. There is a UK-based project manager as your single point of contact, and all work is tracked on a shared online register so you can see the status of every drawing without asking.

The model suits firms with consistent, ongoing CAD volume. For one-off projects or occasional overflow work, standard project-based outsourcing is usually the better fit and we offer that too.

How we control quality

Quality control is the difference between offshore CAD that works and offshore CAD that costs you more than it saves. Ours is built on three things.

An engineer for every three CAD technicians

We maintain a ratio of one engineer to every three CAD technicians. That engineer reviews drawings before they leave the production team. This is the single most important structural decision in the whole model and it is the one most offshore arrangements skip, because it costs money.

Documented standards for every client

We write a drawing manual for each client covering layer structures, line weights, annotation styles, title block requirements, and any client-specific conventions. That manual is what new team members are trained against, which is how we protect continuity when staff change.

A QA checklist completed twice

Every drawing goes through a QA checklist completed by the production team, and then checked independently on the UK side before it reaches you. Two passes, by different people, against a documented standard.

The reason this matters commercially is straightforward. If drawings arrive needing correction, someone in your business has to do that correcting — usually an experienced engineer whose time is expensive. That cost never appears on an offshore supplier's invoice, but it is real, and for many firms it quietly cancels out the saving that made offshore attractive in the first place.

Staff rotation and continuity

Turnover in offshore CAD teams is higher than most UK firms expect. In a direct arrangement, every departure takes your standards knowledge with it — and you find out through a drop in drawing quality some weeks later.

Because our standards are documented rather than held in individual heads, and because new team members are trained and supervised against those documents before working on live client drawings, continuity sits with us rather than with any one drafter. Data security and GDPR

Engineering drawings routinely contain information that matters — site addresses, access and security arrangements, plant layouts, process configurations, and commercially sensitive design detail. When drawings are transferred outside the UK, UK GDPR obligations follow them, and so does commercial risk.

Your contract is with a UK company. We control access, we are transparent about how and where your work is produced, and where a project involves security-sensitive or restricted information, the work stays in the UK. If you need to explain your supply chain to your own client, you can.

Communication

The most common frustration UK firms report with offshore teams is that the answer is always yes — to whether the brief is understood, whether the deadline is achievable, whether the work has been done before. It is not dishonesty, it is a cultural instinct to accommodate rather than raise a concern. But it means problems surface at delivery instead of at briefing.

You brief a UK project manager who will tell you if a deadline is unrealistic. Questions come back to you in your working hours and in your professional idiom. The management of the offshore relationship is our job, not yours.
